SAFETY LAST!

Safety last! Who hasn't seen this famous image of the silent film era: the bespectacled man dangles from the hands of enormous clock? I admire Harold Lloyd as a top-class professional and unbelievably brave man, who had been always true to his principles. It's one of my favourite works. The figurine of the silent era movie star sits on a cardboard cube, depicting the famous clock from the film Safety Last!, as if he's taking rest after the climbing. The pose of the figurine taking off the hat before us alludes to the amazing fearlessness of the actor, who's films are full of terrific stunts and chases. It's distinctive features are: the glasses (Lloyd's movie characters personal brand), the prosthetic glove on his right hand (Lloyd lost half of his hand in an accident) and typical for "roaring twenties" style of the hat. The outfit is loosely based on the one in the film Why Worry?, but the colours were selected by myself cause there are no colour fotos or videos. My main object was the portrait likeness and the personality. The back sides of the cube are covered with antique posters of Lloyd's films.
The figurine is 14 cm high; The size of the whole composition is app. 23 cm.
Materials that are used: the frame of brass wire, foil; sculpey premo polymer clay, fimo polymer clay; acrylic paint and varnish for the face; silk tape, cardboard.
The figurine won the nomination of miniatures at the competition of the Dollmaster magazine held at the Handmade dolls exhibition Dolltime № 12 (St.Petersburg, December 2013).

Safety Last!
